Climate Change and Health Education / Sensitisation Campaign for Health Care Professionals
A Climate-Resilient Marine Spatial Plan will guide the protection and sustainable use of the Virgin Islands’ marine environment. It will define key zones for conservation, fisheries, recreation, and development—supporting climate resilience while enabling a balanced blue economy.
Introduction
There is limited sensitisation about climate change impacts to human health within the system of health care policy makers and providers, with expertise concentrated in a few individuals and agencies.
To ensure mainstreaming of climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives across the health sector, an education / sensitisation campaign targeting all public and private health care professionals is first needed.
The Impact
This project seeks to design and deliver a one-year Climate Change and Health Education / Sensitisation Campaign for public and private health care professionals.
The purpose of the Campaign is to better equip policy makers, planners and providers in the health sector to develop polices, laws, programmes, projects and service initiatives to adapt to climate change and reduce the sector’s carbon footprint.
The Campaign will be informed by a Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP) survey to assess the baseline situation and may include production of educational resources and delivery of seminars, workshops and specialised training courses through the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute – VIPSLI - as well as access to continuing education opportunities.
This project is expected to lay the foundation for enhanced climate change adaptation and mitigation actions in the health care sector.
